Sudamala Resort Sanur is the first hotel developed by the Sudamala group—a boutique property featuring 36 carefully designed rooms that reflect the brand’s commitment to intimacy, cultural richness, and personalized hospitality. The project originated from the client’s aspiration to create not only a hotel, but also an art gallery, celebrating Sanur’s long-standing reputation as a haven for artists, creatives, and early expatriate residents.
Sanur, with its calm shoreline, soft white-sand beaches, and deep historical roots, was one of the earliest coastal areas in Bali to attract foreign visitors. It served as a major tourism destination during the formative years of Bali’s hospitality development, becoming a place where Balinese culture met global influences in a meaningful and harmonious way.
Amidst the growing presence of dense, multi-storey hotels in the area, Sudamala Resort Sanur intentionally reintroduces a low-density boutique format—a refreshing contrast that restores the sense of intimacy and charm that once defined Sanur. The resort is designed as a tranquil sanctuary, where guests can experience a slower, more personal side of the destination.
Architecturally, the resort embodies a synthesis of Balinese design elements and subtle cultural influences that reflect the rich history and layered heritage of Sanur. This approach results in a timeless expression of tropical hospitality—warm, artistic, and deeply rooted in place.

Design Statement
The architectural concept of Sudamala Sanur is a synthesis of Balinese coastal identity with subtle influences from Chinese and European architecture. The design aims to create a boutique resort that feels intimate, unique, and true to the cultural character of Sanur.
Sanur’s coastal charm—soft whites, pastel tones, and a relaxed artistic atmosphere—became the visual foundation of the resort. Traditional Balinese spatial principles such as separate pavilions, courtyards, and natural gardens are reinterpreted in a contemporary way, maintaining the fluid indoor–outdoor experience essential to tropical living.
To accommodate modern functions like two-storey buildings, the design draws on European proportions, while Chinese courtyard planning inspires a connected and sheltered circulation system that still feels open and breezy.
The resort is organized in clear layers of public, semi-private, and private spaces, transitioning naturally from the welcoming front plaza to the central courtyard and finally to the more secluded pool and villa areas. A symbolic gateway ties these zones together.
Material choices like textured limestone reinforce a grounded coastal feel, while lighter upper structures keep the architecture balanced and harmonious.
Overall, Sudamala Sanur presents a simple, elegant, and culturally rooted architectural expression—a boutique retreat shaped by the spirit of Sanur and enriched by its multicultural influences.
