Sudamala Resort Lombok is the second property developed by the Sudamala hotel group, continuing the brand’s commitment to intimate, culturally rooted boutique hospitality. Expanding beyond Bali, the client set out to bring the Sudamala experience to Lombok, an island celebrated for its pristine beaches and rich local tradition.
Located in Senggigi, one of Lombok’s most established tourist areas, the resort is conceived as a beachfront retreat that blends naturally with its coastal surroundings. Designed as a combination of villas and suites, the property adopts a low-rise architectural composition, ensuring a relaxed and human-scale environment that reinforces its boutique character.
The resort carries the atmosphere of a large tropical beach house, expressed through generous verandas, open terraces, and strong connections to the outdoors. Local architectural touches—including alang-alang thatched roofs, natural materials, and Lombok-inspired detailing—give the resort an authentic sense of place while maintaining Sudamala’s refined design language.
A key design approach is the preservation of several large existing trees, which serve as natural anchors throughout the site. These trees shape building placement and influence spatial composition, reflecting a design sensitivity that respects the landscape and enhances the resort’s organic feel.
With its blend of beachfront charm, local craftsmanship, and boutique-scale intimacy, Sudamala Resort Lombok offers a deeply rooted and soulful experience—inviting guests to enjoy the beauty, culture, and calm spirit of Lombok in a setting that feels both natural and thoughtfully designed.
Design Statement
The architectural concept of Sudamala Resort Lombok is inspired by the distinctive traditions of Sasak architecture, reinterpreting elements of the traditional house and the iconic lumbung roof into a modern boutique resort. The use of alang-alang thatched roofs, raw-finished timber, and natural textures strengthens the resort’s earthy, coastal character.
Building masses are arranged with careful precision, creating landscape pockets and open spaces that ensure each villa and suite has the best possible connection to the outdoors—through gardens, courtyards, or natural views.
While rooted in local identity, the resort incorporates modern comfort and contemporary amenities, resulting in a harmonious blend of cultural authenticity and refined boutique hospitality.
The design of Sudamala Resort Lombok is built around the idea of a warm, intimate beachfront sanctuary that blends naturally with Lombok’s coastal landscape. Inspired by the spirit of a large tropical beach house, each villa and suite opens to generous terraces, embracing the island’s soft light, sea breezes, and relaxed outdoor living.
